Paul Smith urges cyclists to register for freshnlo Pedal for Scotland

 

Legendary designer Paul Smith is urging cyclists to take part in this year’s freshnlo Pedal for Scotland to raise money for Maggie’s Centres.The menswear icon, who designed the interior of Maggie’s Nottingham, says he is delighted to help encourage people to get involved: “I love cycling because of the freedom of the open road and the wind in my face – I am very privileged to support Maggie’s in this great cycling event.”

Thousands of people take part in freshnlo Pedal for Scotland every year raising as much as £500,000 for charity and this year Maggie’s is Pedal for Scotland’s official charity partner. Whatsmore, anyone who signs up for freshnlo Pedal for Scotland as part of the Maggie’s Team and raises £500 or more has a chance of winning a b’Twin Triban 5 road bike worth hundreds of pounds courtesy of Decathlon.

Maggie’s events co-ordinator Rachel Deuchar said: “We are delighted to be Pedal for Scotland’s charity partners for 2012.

“It is a fantastic event and always has a great atmosphere.

“Everyone can take part, including families, and everyone who crosses the finish line is guaranteed to do so with a huge sense of achievement. Of course everyone at Maggie’s deeply appreciates all efforts made to raise the funds which allow us to continue to offer support to anyone affected by cancer. Which is why we are also delighted to be able to offer anyone on the Maggie’s Team who raises £500 or more the chance to win an incredible bike thanks to Decathlon.”

Participants in Pedal for Scotland can either cycle 47 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh or undertake the 100 mile Sportive challenge which takes cyclists from Glasgow to Edinburgh via the Southern Uplands. Register now by signing up on Pedal for Scotland’s website. Don’t forget to select Maggie’s as your charity to be in with a chance of winning a bike!

freshnlo Pedal for Scotland is organised by Cycling Scotland. Ian Aitken, chief executive of Cycling Scotland, says: “We had a fantastic turn out for the 2011 event, with over 14,000 people getting on their bikes to take part. Since freshnlo Pedal for Scotland launched in 1999 we have seen an increase in participants year on year and I have no doubt that 2012 will be our best yet. With options to suit all ability levels, it really is a fun-filled day for all the family to enjoy.”


The draw for the Maggie’s bike competition will take place on October 8th 2012.
